Look great. Play Great. http://GetBestGolfSwingTips.com

When someone says a polo shirt or a golf shirt, he or she would be referring to a tennis shirt. This type of t-shirt comes with a collar, a few buttons in the front slit and two side slits on the bottom. It may or may not have a pocket. The most commonly used knitted material to make a tennis shirt is pique cotton. Sometimes silk, merino wool or synthetic fibers are used.

It was a Frenchman called Rene Lacoste, a 7-time tennis Grand Slam winner, who first created the tennis shirt. He thought of bringing changes in tennis apparel because during the nineteenth to early twentieth century, tennis players were wearing long-sleeved shirts, trousers and ties to the court. These type of attire were more suitable for people working in the office as the dress shirts were simply too stiff and the ties too heavy. Lacoste’s design, named after himself, comprised of a thick collar, a loose non-starched pique cotton shirt with side slits at the bottom, a longer shirt-tail at the back. The main reason to have an easily upturnable collar that was thicker than the shirt was to protect the tennis player’s neck from sun burns. The interesting thing was the polo players had already been using this design since the late nineteenth century. Before Lacoste’s tennis shirt design made its debut in 1929, polo players were wearing thick Oxford-cloth cotton made long-sleeved shirts and button-down collar. Although the collar design kept the wind from constantly flapping it, the polo shirt then was generally inconvenient to wear. Therefore when they discovered Lacoste’s line of tennis shirts in the 1930s, they did not hesitate to adopt his design.

It was not long before the term polo shirt became synonymous with tennis shirt. By the 1950s, polo shirts were commonly considered as part of the formal tennis attire in America. Even the tennis players themselves referred to their attire as a “polo shirt”. In actual fact, this type of t-shirt was first worn in a tennis court rather than in a game of polo and had a longer history in the tennis sports world.

In 1967, the popularity of polo shirts sky-rocketed when Ralph Lauren incorporated polo shirts as a leading product into his original clothing line called Polo. Though this type of shirts were not designed to wear for polo games, Lauren’s polo shirts were a good imitation of the then formal polo attire.

As golf attire become more easygoing and less formal in the twentieth century, golf also adopted tennis shirt as its standard attire. Most golfers today, male and female alike, are wearing tennis shirts. For the ladies, tennis shirts can be custom made in different kinds of colors. But because golf is an entirely different game from tennis, it requires different design of cuts on the tennis shirt, resulting in the monicker “golf shirt”. Now that tennis shirt is so commonly worn in today’s society, it has its own niche in the market. Since both men and women wear it in any and every occasion, almost every fashion producer started to invent at least a version or variation of Lacoste’s tennis shirt for non-athletics purposes. At the same time, tennis shirts are just the perfect substitute attire for jobs where round collar-t-shirts are deemed unacceptable and yet formal business wear is deemed overdressed, such as for semi-professional and retail workers. Tennis shirts are widely accepted as smart and casual wear.

Its rough and ready style also makes it a favored shirt for those working outdoors, such as field guides and labourers. During the 1990s, the tennis shirt became the standard business informal/casual attire for the high tech industry and then spread to other industries. Company logos are often printed on these tennis shirts to be used as custom corporate apparel. Some government officials in India wear tennis shirts as standard work attire.

Tennis shirts are without doubt very fashionable in sports. Officials such as caddies, some retired golf professionals, umpires and sports announcers wear tennis shirts on a regular basis. Besides that, tennis shirts are also popular in many schools, especially junior schools. Both boys and girls wear tennis shirts as part of their compulsory uniform to schools. Because tennis shirts are closely associated with sports, they come in all sorts of light colors. The most typical color is white.

The modern tennis shirt has a special feature called a “tennis tail”. This design is taken from the original Lacoste, whereby the back is cut a few centimeters longer than the front so that when the tennis player leans forward, the shirt will still stay tucked properly in his shorts. In addition, a tennis shirt’s collar can be easily upturned to protect the player’s neck from the sun.

The tennis shirt or polo shirt will continue to occupy a niche in the fashion industry, regardless of the changing trends and times. It has become an essential wear in our daily lives.

A shirt is a cloth garment for the upper body. Originally an undergarment worn exclusively by men, it has become in American English a catch-all term for almost any upper-body garment other than outerwear such as sweaters or coats, or undergarments such as bras. The term “top” is sometimes used in lady wear. In British English, a shirt is more specifically a garment with a collar, sleeves with cuffs, and a full vertical opening with buttons. This is known in American English as a “button-up” shirt or dress shirt.

History of Shirt

The world’s oldest preserved garment, discovered by Flinders Petrie, is a “highly sophisticated” linen shirt from a First Dynasty Egyptian tomb at Tarkan, ca. 3000B.C. : “the shoulders and sleeves have been finely pleated to give form-fitting trimness while allowing the wearer room to move. The small fringe formed during weaving along one edge of the cloth has been placed by the designer to decorate the neck opening and side seam.” The shirt was an item of men’s underwear until the twentieth century. Although the woman’s chemise was a closely related garment to the man’s, it is the man’s garment that became the modern shirt. In the Middle Ages it was a plain, undyed garment worn next to the skin and under regular garments. In medieval artworks, the shirt is only visible (uncovered) on humble characters, such as shepherds, prisoners, and penitents. In the seventeenth century men’s shirts were allowed to show, with much the same erotic import as visible underwear today. In the eighteenth century, instead of underpants, men “relied on the long tails of shirts … to serve the function of drawers. Eighteenth century costume historian Joseph Strutt believed that men who did not wear shirts to bed were indecent. Even as late as 1879, a visible shirt with nothing over it was considered improper. The shirt sometimes had frills at the neck or cuffs. In the sixteenth century, men’s shirts often had embroidery, and sometimes frills or lace at the neck and cuffs,[8] and through the eighteenth century long neck frills, or jabots, were fashionable. Colored shirts begin to appear in the early nineteenth century, as can be seen in the paintings of George Caleb Bingham. They were considered casual wear, for lower class workers only, until the twentieth century. For a gentleman, “to wear a sky-blue shirt was unthinkable in 1860 but had become standard by 1920 and, in 1980, constituted the most commonplace event.” European and American women began wearing shirts in 1861, when the “Garibaldi Blouse”, a red shirt as worn by the freedom fighters under Giuseppe Garibaldi, became fashionable.

Types of shirt

1) Camp shirt — a loose, straight-cut, short sleeved shirt or blouse with a simple placket front-opening and a “camp collar.”

2) Dress shirt — shirt with a collar, a full-length opening at the front from the collar to the hem, and sleeves with cuffs

Quayabera — an embroidered dress shirt with four pockets.

3) T-shirt — also “tee shirt”, a casual shirt without a collar or buttons, made of a stretchy, finely knit fabric, usually cotton, and usually short-sleeved. Originally worn under other shirts, it is now a common shirt for everyday wear in some countries.

Ringer T-shirt — tee with a separate piece of fabric sewn on as the collar and sleeve hems

Halfshirt — a high-hemmed t-shirt A-shirt or construction shirt or singlet (in British English) — essentially a sleeveless t-shirt with large armholes and a large neck hole, often worn by labourers or athletes for increased movability. Sometimes called a “wife beater” when worn without a covering layer. Camisole — woman’s undershirt with narrow straps, or a similar garment worn alone (often with bra). Also referred to as a cami, shelf top, spaghetti straps or strappy top.

4) tennis shirt, golf shirt, or polo shirt — a pullover soft collar short-sleeved shirt with an abbreviated button placket at the neck and a longer back than front (the “tennis tail”). Rugby shirt — a long-sleeved polo shirt, traditionally of rugged construction in thick cotton or wool, but often softer today. Henley shirt — a collarless polo shirt.

5) Baseball shirt — usually distinguished by a three quarters sleeve, team insignia, and flat waistseam

6) Sweatshirt — long-sleeved athletic shirt of heavier material, with or without hood.

7) Tunic — primitive shirt, distinguished by two-piece construction. Initially a men’s garment, is normally seen in modern times being worn by women.

shirtwaist — historically (circa. 1890-1920) a woman’s tailored shirt (also called a “tailored waist”) cut like a man’s dress shirt; in contemporary usage, a woman’s dress cut like a men’s dress shirt to the waist, then extended into dress length at the bottom

9) nightshirt — often oversized, ruined or inexpensive light cloth undergarment shirt for sleeping.

10) sleeveless shirt — A shirt with no sleeves. Contains only neck, bottom hem, body, and sometimes shoulders depending on type Halter top — a shoulderless, sleeveless garment for women. It is mechanically analogous to an apron with a string around the back of the neck and across the lower back holding it in place.

Tops that would generally not be considered shirts:

1) onesie or diaper shirt — a shirt for infants which includes a long back that is wrapped between the legs and buttoned to the front of the shirt 2) sweaters — heavy knitted upper garments 3) jackets, coats and similar outerwear 4) tube top (in American English) or boob tube (in British English) — a shoulderless, sleeveless “tube” that wraps the torso not reaching higher than the armpit, staying in place by elasticity or by a single strap that is attached to the front of the tube

Parts of shirts

Many terms are used to describe and differentiate types of shirts (and upper-body garments in general) and their construction. The smallest differences may have significance to a cultural or occupational group. Recently, (late 20th century) it has become common to use tops to carry messages or advertising. Many of these distinctions apply to other upper-body garments, such as coats and sweaters. 1) Shoulders and arms Sleeves Shirts may: * have no covering of the shoulders or arms — a tube top (not reaching higher than the armpits, staying in place by elasticity) * have only shoulder straps, such as spaghetti straps * cover the shoulders, but without sleeves * have short sleeves, varying from cap sleeves (not extending below the armpit) to half sleeves (elbow length) * have three-quarter-length sleeves (reaching to a point between the elbow and the wrist) Cuffs Shirts with long sleeves may further be distinguished by the cuffs: * no buttons — a closed placket cuff * buttons (or analogous fasteners such as snaps) — single or multiple. A single button or pair aligned parallel with the cuff hem is considered a button cuff. Multiple buttons aligned perpendicular to the cuff hem, or parallel to the placket constitute a barrel cuff. * buttonholes designed for cufflinks o a French cuff, where the end half of the cuff is folded over the cuff itself and fastened with a cufflink. This type of cuff has four buttons and a short placket. o more formally, a link cuff — fastened like a French cuff, except is not folded over, but instead hemmed, at the edge of the sleeve. * asymmetrical designs, such as one-shoulder, one-sleeve or with sleeves of different lengths. Lower hem of shirt * leaving the belly button area bare (much more common for women than for men). See halfshirt. * hanging to the waist * covering the crotch * covering part of the legs (essentially this is a dress; however, a piece of clothing is perceived either as a shirt (worn with trousers) or as a dress (in Western culture mainly worn by women)). * going to the floor (as a pajama shirt) Body * vertical opening on the front side, all the way down, with buttons or zipper. When fastened with buttons, this opening is often called the placket front. * similar opening, but in back. * left and right front side not separable, put on over the head; with regard to upper front side opening: o V-shaped permanent opening on the top of the front side o no opening at the upper front side o vertical opening on the upper front side with buttons or zipper + men’s shirts are often buttoned on the right whereas women’s are often buttoned on the left. Neck * with polo-neck * with v-neck but no collar * with plunging neck * with open or tassel neck * with collar windsor collar or spread collar — a dressier collar designed with a wide distance between points (the spread) to accommodate the windsor knot tie. The standard business collar. tab collar — a collar with two small fabric tabs that fasten together behind a tie to maintain collar spread. wing collar — best suited for the bow tie, often only worn for very formal occasions. straight collar — or point collar, a version of the windsor collar that is distinguished by a narrower spread to better accommodate the four-in-hand knot, pratt knot, and the half-windsor knot. A moderate dress collar. button-down collar — A collar with buttons that fasten the points or tips to a shirt. The most casual of collars worn with a tie. band collar — essentially the lower part of a normal collar, first used as the original collar to which a separate collarpiece was attached. Rarely seen in modern fashion. Also casual. turtle neck collar — A collar that covers most of the throat. * without collar Other features * pockets — how many (if any), where, and with regard to closure: not closable, just a flap, or with a button or zipper. * with or without hood Some combinations are not applicable, of course, e.g. a tube top cannot have a collar.

Types of shirting Fabrics

There are main two categories of shirting fabric i.e. Natural Fibre and Man-Made Fibre (Synthetics or Petroleum based). Some of Natural Fibre fabric are 100% cotton, Bamboo, Soya, now Organic Cotton widely used in making shirts of high quality. Synthetics fibre are Polyester, Tencel, Viscose etc. These are easy care fabrics, some times low in cost. Polyester mixed with cotton (Polycotton) and 100% cotton are most used in shirting fabrics.

S&A Garment is a professional manufacturer of high quality leisure shirts

Look great. Play Great. http://GetBestGolfSwingTips.com

Clothing was initially a tool to protect mankind from the harsh environment and extreme weathers. Today, man and women alike are still expected to be fully and presentably dressed, though in certain part of the world, clothes has evolved into a fashion statement that symbolizes the sense of well being especially for women. Lady’s apparel and the impact of fashion has therefore become a powerful tool in determining a woman’s success.

The textile industry was the first to be mechanized during the Industrial Revolution. Before this, the process of making fabric was considered tedious and required intensive labor. Today, although mechanized, the process of turning fabrics into apparels is still not as easy as it seems and modern day consumer has often take clothing for granted.

Over the centuries, man became more efficient in making clothes. Man has also incorporated creative ideas in making their attire. As a result of this, the fashion industry starts blooming and different methods in beautifying clothes have developed. One significant method is embroidery.

Embroidered fabrics are materials that have been decorated with designs stitched in strands of threads or yarn using a particular needle. A sign of wealth and power during the ancient times, embroidered cloths have been worn by the Egyptians, Babylonians, Phoenicians, Hebrews as well as the Moors. Unique styles and patterns were embedded within the embroidery designs signifying the different culture. Rich traders and merchants are often those willing to pay a large amount of money just to acquire the luxury of embroidered clothing which will later be worn by their wives and mistresses.

Decorating with embroidery is one of the most beautiful ways to express your identity on clothes and accessories. It brings the lady wearing the attire a sense of style and elegance. Hand-made embroidery is regarded highly because more work and energy is dedicated into creating a faultless piece. Careful work which usually take days or even months are required as the creator work on every part of the fabric in detail. Today, machines have helped human to simplify their work and the quality of machine-made embroidery are now equally as beautiful as hand-made embroidery.

Embroidery on clothing can provide the wearer with a sense of individuality. With help from machines, almost every garment can be embroidered. The rich and famous has taken this to full advantage by creating their own unique attire. This is done by having the clothes tailor-made with their initials embroidered. Fashion is without a doubt a universal concept. No industry or activity is ignored by fashion. Even sportsmen and women are not left behind in the world of fashion. With adoring fans wanting to dress like their idol such as Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie, fashion has found its way to the greens! Lady golf apparel is now making statements on golf courses despite the fact that golfers are guarded by dress codes and rules.

Clothing has now really evolved into something out of necessity into an indicator of social status in today’s community. The previous practical function of clothing which is to protect the human body from dangers in environment has now certainly progress into not only protecting the user but more often than not, is able to give a sense of confidence and pride. The world of fashion is really a dominant market in our world right now as more and more designers creatively explore and produce original lady apparels for all the beautiful ladies out there.

Even if you’re not heading to Wimbledon or the LPGA, you might be thinking about women’s tennis and golf apparel. Although, the earliest versions of these pieces of clothing may have been a bit stodgy and uncomfortable, the good news is that times have changed and these clothing pieces are more stylish than ever. Here are some ideas for getting your wardrobe updated and ready for your next tennis or golf outing – or maybe just for your next trip to the grocery store.

What Tennis Can Offer Your Style

If you’ve gotten the chance to watch any modern tennis tournaments, you’ll see that tennis is quite the stage for fashion. From the Williams sisters to Sharpova, tennis is not just for boring white skirts and basic tees anymore. More tennis outfits, than ever before, are looking more like casual wear instead of something that’s ready for the court. Here are some examples of tennis pieces that might be right for your closet :

Skirts

Tank tops

Shirts

Shorts

One piece jumper-like outfits

Many of these outfits are now being styled by high name fashion designers and are being crafted from high tech materials that wick away sweat and help to give the players the maximum amount of mobility. With loose styling and generous cuts, the outfit can sail through numerous serves and volleys, all without losing its shape.

The colors that are found in tennis outfits are also creating quite a stir, moving away from the ordinary whites and lighter colors and into the fluorescent palettes. These are certainly going to stand out on the court, as well as provide a distraction for your opponent.

There is also a number of tennis accessories that will help you show off your style – headbands, hats, visors, shoes, and even sweat bands.

What Golf Can Offer Your Style

You might also want to look at golf for suggestions on how to recreate your style on the course or just in your everyday life. From golf shirts to golf skorts and skirts, shorts, and capris, women are finding that it’s not just the men that get to dress up for the next eighteen.

Professional women golfers need to be comfortable in order to make it from the first tee to the final putt, so the materials used in golf apparel are synthetic (in many cases) and allow air to circulate. But at the same time, these pieces of clothing need to be protective and thick enough to protect the skin from the sun.

There is also a general trend that is helping golf clothing become more feminine in nature. Instead of the old fashioned pants and shapeless tees, some are turning to feminine cuts that allow them to showcase their body shapes. Of course, these are still tasteful pieces of clothing that will be appropriate for course wear.

Why Use These Pieces of Clothing

From a very practical standpoint, tennis and golf apparel is a good fit for any wardrobe because it can move from one part of your life to the next. Instead of having to buy two sets of clothing for two different parts of your life, you can wear these articles of clothing for day time and then transition into your workout time without any troubles.

You will also find that the newer synthetic materials that are being used help to prolong the life of these pieces of clothing, making them long term investments in style. And with their innovative details (like dry wicking properties and breathable fibers), you can take these clothes to any golfing climate you like.
